My Priorities for Johnston County

I believe Johnston County deserves state leadership focused on the everyday concerns of the people who live and work here.

Affordability and the Cost of Living
Families are feeling the pressure of rising costs for housing, groceries, utilities, healthcare, and other necessities. I support policies that strengthen working families, encourage good-paying jobs, support small businesses, and help keep Johnston County affordable for the people who call it home.

Strong Public Schools
Strong public schools are essential to strong communities. I support investing in North Carolina’s public schools, respecting and retaining teachers and school employees, and making sure students have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.

Affordable, Accessible Healthcare

People should be able to get the healthcare they need without facing overwhelming costs or traveling long distances for care. I support protecting access to affordable healthcare, strengthening services in growing and rural communities, and addressing the rising costs faced by patients and families.

Responsible Growth and Infrastructure
Johnston County is growing rapidly. That growth must be managed responsibly, with adequate roads, schools, water and sewer systems, public safety services, and other infrastructure. State and local governments must have the resources necessary to keep pace.

Agriculture and Johnston County’s Rural Communities
Agriculture remains a vital part of Johnston County’s economy and identity. I support protecting farmland, strengthening family farms, and making sure agricultural communities have a voice as development and population growth continue.

Public Safety and Responsible Gun Ownership
I respect the Second Amendment and the rights of responsible gun owners. I also support practical measures intended to reduce gun violence and keep firearms out of the hands of people who pose a danger to themselves or others.

Accountable and Transparent Government
Government should work openly, responsibly, and in the public interest. I support transparency, responsible use of taxpayer dollars, and decisions based on the needs of the people rather than political interests.

My approach is centered on accountable government, strong communities, and making sure Johnston County has a strong voice in the North Carolina Senate.

Pat LeGrand

Pat was born in Nebraska and built a long career in information technology, working across the evolution of modern computing, from early systems to computer operations, analytical support, technical project work, and database design. Her work also included international training operations and projects in multiple oil and gas producing nations.

In 1997, Pat relocated from California to North Carolina to work for Bayer Corporation in

Raleigh. She later transferred to Bayer’s Clayton facility, which later became Grifols, and made Johnston County her permanent home. Pat retired from Grifols after years of dedicated service.

Pat has long been involved in state and local politics, focused on voter engagement and volunteer outreach, and committed to building relationships and fostering goodwill throughout Johnston County and across North Carolina. She believes public service should be grounded in responsibility, fairness, and respect for the people and institutions that hold communities together.

Outside of work and public service, Pat has been a longtime volunteer in dog rescue and

community service, reflecting her commitment to compassion and service to others.

Pat holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences, with an emphasis in Education and

bilingual bicultural Spanish, from San Diego State University. She also holds a Master of Arts in

Counseling Psychology from National University.

Pat lives in Clayton and is a proud mother and grandmother.
